This is my first attempt at blogging.  Up to this point, about four months since arriving in Cairo, I have been primarily relying on Facebook but figured I would open my experiences up to the rest of the world.  In my time here I have done my best to not be an American in Cairo.  Rather, I have tried to be just another person in Cairo.  This is of course difficult as human beings love their identities more than anything except money.  And, being relatively easily identified as a westerner, my identity means that I have money and that I desperately need perfume, rugs, small statues of the pyramids and all sorts of other miscellaneous trinkets.

But, I digress.  In what I write and what I have been observing, I have tried to step outside of my cultural conditioning as much as possible.  My observations will not be along the lines of “wow look at how different these people are from us.”  Undeniably, the differences are many, amazing and not to be overlooked but I want to focus more on conveying my raw experiences without dragging around too much of a cultural ball and chain.

I hope you will all enjoy reading what I write.  I need to make a habit of updating this regularly but I am most assuredly not a creature of habit.  So hopefully the updates will be regular.

Peace, from Cairo.
